For decades, I have worn glasses for reading. And, as I have grown older, reading the fine print without them has become increasingly more difficult.

However, since I do not need glasses for driving, I have never worn contacts. Still, I find myself very impressed with Clear Conscience, which sells contact lens solution and contact lens cases.

Clear Conscience was established in 1998 to provide quality, safe products for contact lenses that are cruelty-free. Company policy ensures that all suppliers are also committed to product safety testing without the use of animals. Ten percent of all proceeds [are] donated to non-profit animal welfare and environmental organizations.

The contact lens solution, which is designed for soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses, is sold in 12 ounce and 3 ounce (travel) recyclable spill-proof plastic bottles. FDA approved, the lens solution is cruelty-free, thimerosal-free, and chlorhexidine-free.

Clear Conscience Multi-Purpose Solution is a sterile solution for daily cleaning, rinsing, disinfecting and storing soft (hydrophilic) contact lenses.

Then, there are the contact lenses cases.

Help the conservation of endangered species worldwide by purchasing Clear Conscience contact lens cases! For every contact lens case sold, a contribution is made to the Born Free USA, in addition to the Clear Conscience policy of donating ten percent of all proceeds to various animal-welfare organizations.

The cases contain a small mirror “to assist in insertion and removal of lenses.” They also have a “special screw-top lens case that fits inside the outer case.” When ordering, buyers select from over 12 different endangered species designs – leopard, tiger, cheetah, panda, dolphin, orca, wolf, sea otter, elephant, lion, polar bear, and rhino.

Cases are made from premium plastics perfectly suited for the use with Clear Conscience Multi-Purpose contact lens solution and various types of contact lenses, and are FDA approved.

Bella Luccè

bellalucce.com

About 10 years ago, Lela Barker’s older sister, Mimi, found tumors in her breast tissue.

Stunned by the discovery, Lela began a mission to unearth why an otherwise healthy woman in her 20’s had developed such maladies. During her research, she stumbled upon a recently released British study which indicated that a common family of cosmetic preservative was mimicking estrogen in women’s bodies, leading to the development of breast tumors. After scouring her bathroom for products containing the ingredient, she was horrified to learn that the dreaded ‘parabens’ were in everything from her shampoo to her body lotion.

Although Lela was able to find healthier alternatives at local health store, she found the selection “uninspired.”

Lela wanted to have her cake and eat it too… She envisioned healthy products like those found in her local organic market fused with the alluring aromas, decadent textures and beautiful packaging of department store brands. After a period of extensive research, she began mixing up batches of fresh skin care goodies in her tiny kitchen, giving them to her sister to use after surgery and sharing them with family and friends. They clamored for more, and Lela developed a simple collection of soaps, bath salts, and lotions that blossomed into a wonderfully creative outlet she truly enjoyed.

Hoping to create a wider range of products, Lela founded Bella Luccè in 2003.

Today, Bella Luccè extensive collection of exotic bath and body luxuries is featured in luxe spas, salons, and natural wellness centers in 48 states and more than a dozen countries… from Los Angeles all the way to Dubai. True to her vision, Lela’s products bridge the gap between the uninspired natural market and the opulent, but synthetic-filled products brimming from department stores. The Bella Luccè collection is at once both refreshingly natural and utterly luscious.

Among Bella Luccè’s bestsellers are Peruvian Chocolate Bliss Crème, Multifruit Regenerative Face Crème, Pink Grapefruit Foaming Cleanser, Pomegranate Polishing Crème, Vanilla-Coconut Whipped Shea, and Cranbury-Yuzu Sugar Scrub.

And, Bella Luccè is a very socially responsible company.

Though it all, Lela and Bella Luccè have remained true to the ideals upon which the company was founded – to create organic-infused luxury-kissed products worthy of the world’s finish establishments and to price them at a level which allows every woman the opportunity to feel beautiful. A commitment to responsible sourcing of ingredients and donating back to indigenous communities around the world still guides the company’s growth.

Have you been searching for ways to provide extra nourishment to your hair, skin, and nails? You may wish to consider Sibu Beauty supplements and skin care products that contain sea buckthorn berries.

High in the Tibetan Himalayas (12,000 feet above sea level) grows a tiny but resilient fruit that resists the harsh weather conditions and high altitudes. The sea buckthorn berry fortifies itself against the elements by producing an array of powerful nutrients. With over 190 bioactive compounds, sea buckthorn is an unsurpassed source of Omegas 3, 6, and 9. And, it’s a rich source of the elusive essential fatty acid, Omega-7, an essential fatty acid vital to collagen production and healthy skin, hair, and nails.

Sibu Beauty sells liquid and softgel dietary supplements, daytime facial cream, and facial soap.

Each Sibu Beauty product is packed with nutrients from the sea buckthorn berry to revitalize, renew, and replenish…. Its medicinal uses for healing and overall health and beauty have long been legendary.

Today, there are research studies confirming these benefits.

Sea buckthorn has been thoroughly researched in over 130 modern scientific studies that have found that this berry promotes health. Sea buckthorn contains more than 190 biologically active compounds that can nourish the body’s cells to protect the skin from free radicals and the natural aging process.

In addition, Sibu Beauty is a socially responsible company.

We are proud to offer an exclusive line of health and beauty products that will improve the way you look and the way you feel. But, we are also sensitive to the constant stress on our environment due to chemicals, overflowing landfills, and irresponsible management of our forests and other valued resources.

For these reasons, Sibu Beauty is also proud to announce a range of sustainability initiatives which respect the earth and the resources it provides. From our easily recycled plastic and our partnership with the Forest Stewardship Council, to our fair trade investing practices in Tibet and philanthropic outreach. Sibu Beauty wants to make a difference for your health and for the planet.

In 2001, Sibu Beauty founder Bruce McMullin established the Tashi Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization designed to provide financial and resource support for the impoverished people of Tibet, where Sibu sea buckthorn berries are exclusively harvested.

www.canusgoatsmilk.com

I don’t really know why I gravitate toward products made from goat’s milk. But, I do. I much prefer cheese made from goat’s milk to cheese made from cow’s milk. And, I just love soap that contains goat’s milk. In fact, I adore the soap made by Canus Goat’s Milk.

Way back in 1994, two friends from Montreal decided the world would be a whole lot softer if more people washed with soap made from fresh goat’s milk. Thus began Canus, and in just a few short years, their original triple-milled bar grew into the second largest selling soap in all of Canada.

The company now makes a host of different products.

Andree Falardeau and Andre Beauregard figured they were on to something. Pretty soon, Canus was making fresh goat’s milk body wash, fresh goat’s moisturizer, fresh goat’s milk body butter and foot scrub. All in all, there are now more than 90 Canus Goat’s Milk and L’ll Goat’s Milk Products. Plus the new Nature’s Dog line of fresh goat’s milk canine shampoo and delicious goat’s milk dog treats. After all, four-legged friends deserve the benefits of goat’s milk as much as us bi—peds.

While Andre remained in Montreal, Andree moved to Vermont to establish a U.S. headquarters.

Today, the charming Canus goat illustration smiles back at customers from the shelves of major mass retail and drug store chains, supermarkets and specialty stores through the lower 48. Of course, none of this could have happened without the thousands of dedicated, hard-working goats and the family farms that take such good care of them and deliver their milk to Canus. Ultimately, the Company’s success will be defined not only by how much product we sell but also by how we make it and by how many people’s lives get better along the way. This means continuously improving our sustainability practices and sourcing natural, responsible grown and harvested botanical ingredients whenever possible. It also means giving back, and supporting employees who want to make a difference in their local communities. We’re very big on volunteerism and fund-raising.

Among the organizations Canus supports are Heifer International, Komen Race for the Cure, Strolling of the Heifers, University of Vermont Small Ruminant Center, and Friends of Boston’s Homeless.

In today’s world, most people appear to have fairly tight budgets. However, when they do spend their money, they want to ensure that they are spending it wisely. That is why you may wish to consider Shea Terra Organics, which sells a wide variety of personal care items created from indigenous African ingredients. Among the offerings are products for the face, body, and bath.

Shea Terra Organics does business by a different creed. With respect for native people their autonomy and environment, Shea Terra believes that Africans have the right to determine their own destinies and to profit and control their own resources. Shea Terra partners with individuals and cooperatives, while working closely with NGOs to ensure that native trades people, farmers and harvesters not only get Fair Trade prices for their commodities, but that they receive prices that they set themselves.

Shea Terra also believes in purchasing products through NGOs. That enables people to “support themselves while preserving their environment.”

Purchases of baobab oil and indigenous herbs from the Miombo forest help to save it from foreign logging and local slash and burn farming. Reforestation projects underway are aimed at planting tree economically beneficial for food, medicine and non-consumable goods. Honey, propolis and beeswax purchased from a cooperative in Uganda supports one of many other NGO projects that Shea Terra works with closely to empower natives with the knowledge and means that they need to have self governing and healthier lives.

Giving natives the opportunities to determine their own destinies and enrich their lives with nourishment and good health, sometimes requires more than just equal exchange. Shea Terra Organics created the Ethiopian Goat Project, which provides goats, grain and training about goat care to families in Ethiopia. The goat’s milk provides nourishment for entire families and is vital sustenance for babies.

The following are some of the advantages of Shea Terra products:

Products are 99 – 100% natural.

No artificial fragrances: artificial fragrances can cause allergies and many contain carcinogens

Shea Terra Organics uses only pure fruit and plant extracts to enhance the therapeutic values of our products. Don’t expect an herbal, medicinal fragrance. Our carefully formulated fragrances rival some of the largest cosmetic companies without compromise to your health.

Shea Terra Organics products DO NOT contain sulfates, parabens, silicone, artificial coloring or synthetic fragrance. The products are cruelty free.

Shea Terra shea butter products contain 10% – 100% certified organic shea butter, much higher than the industry standard of 1 – 5%….

Shea Terra Organics is committed to ecologically responsible packaging, with all its products made by hand to off-set carbon waste. Product packaging is recyclable. Packing materials are made from recycled paper and pulp, and corn starch packing peanuts that dissolve in water. Promotional material is printed on recycled paper with soy ink.

Looking for premium bath and spa products for you and all the members of your family? Look no further than this innovative and creative business that was established in 2005 by Sarah Wynne, who has more than 20 years in the beauty industry, and Scott Johnson, who has been building his business experience for more than 12 years. All their products are made in small batches and contain only the “finest natural and organic ingredients.”

Inspired by family recipes, each ingredient is carefully chosen and every formulation is tested on our family and friends (not animals) before being introduced to the world. We bring our customers products that are formulated from wholesome ingredients instead of laboratory concocted, mass-produced chemicals.

Sarah Scott products do not contain artificial fragrances or harsh detergents. While some of our products are unscented to further protect skin from irritation, others have aromas from the natural and organic ingredients in the recipes, such as the light honey scent in our TanKeeper After Tan Honey Healing Lotion. In addition, we’re proud to share our family album with our customers – since the beginning, our labeling has featured photos of loved ones.

Sarah Scott is an ethical and environmentally conscious company, emerging as a trusted name in skincare to those who insist on only the best in natural and organic products. As we continue to expand our business, and reach more customers with our special skincare recipes, rest assured that we will continue to conduct business with our founding values of providing superior products and services.

Among the items sold at Sarah Scott are skin moisturizers and cleaners, bath salt, body bars, shampoo and conditioners, facials, hair masque, baby lotion, and dog shampoo.

Sarah Scott is a very socially responsible company. Since it was founded, it has supported local charities such as Wigs 4 Kids, Alternatives for Girls, Paint a Miracle, The Love 4 Jami, and the UJF –Miles Alpern Levin Fund, which is named after a young man who died from a rare type of pediatric cancer. In addition, every time a purchase is made from one of the items in Sarah Scott’s Lilyrose collection, a dollar is donated to the Trisomy 18 Foundation.

After Down’s Syndrome, Trisomy 18 Syndrome is the second most common chromosomal disorder diagnosed in pregnancy with 1 in 3000 live births annually. Also known as Edwards syndrome, the disorder is usually fatal. The Trisomy Foundation was started by Don and Victoria Miller after the loss of their son Isaac in 2001. The foundation’s mission is to guide the search for a cure and treatments, to educate and support medical professionals, and to create a caring worldwide community for affected families.

Are you looking for organic baby products as well as organic bath and body products for yourself and members of your family? Are you a mommy to be? If so, you may wish to log onto Erbaviva.com, which was founded by Robin Brown and his wife Anna Cirronis in 1996 as a source for “upscale products free from all harsh detergents, chemical fragrances, and other unhealthy additives.”

Erbaviva’s first product was our unique, soap-less Baby Washbag – an unbleached cotton sachet, filled with organic oatmeal, organic milk and organic lavender flowers. Shortly after, we added a complete line of baby care products including an extra mild Baby Soap and Organic Baby Oil to create a complete authentically herbal and organic baby care collection.

Following the success of our baby care line, Erbaviva created an organic pregnancy collection that included everything a mommy-to-be could wish for during the nine months of pre-natal body care. Today we offer a wide range of products for the entire family with bath, body and true aromatherapy. Using the highest quality organic and wildcrafted essential oils, our products are freshly made with loving care through all stages of production at our own facility in Southern California.

Erbaviva only labels a product “organic” if it contains more than 99 percent certified organic ingredients.

Why organic? The average woman absorbs 2 kg of chemicals into her body from conventional cosmetics every year! Organic is unquestionably better for the body and environment. True organic products are free of dangerous pesticides, artificial fertilizers etc. Organic is a far higher standard than ‘natural’ which by definition is in fact not natural due to containing residual pesticides and additives. It makes economic sense. Public and media consciousness is all leaning toward organic. Organic is a rapidly burgeoning trend. It is going to be a steep upward curve from here forward.

And, Erbaviva is helping those in need.

Since the founding of our company in 1996, we have been part of a project that helps fund the Pwo Karen hill tribe of Northern Thailand and Burma. The project runs a health clinic for the hill tribe children and assists villagers to transition from ‘slash and burn’ agricultural practices to growing permanent, sustainable farms. We purchase all of our fabric and packaging and basketry through this project, having a direct financial benefit to the tribe.

I am a soap person. I love to try out new soaps, especially those sold at Whole Foods. The Whole Food stores near our home have truly amazing selections of soap. One of my more recent finds is True Body Soap.

The origins of True Body Products go back to a series of water-cooler sessions with a group of friends and colleagues at Seventh Generation in Burlington, Vermont. We dreamed and schemed of ways we could put a personal stamp on Seventh Generation’s challenge to make the world a better place. Fast forward to a cold morning in December 2006, when, over coffee, everything came together around an opportunity to make a good-quality natural product that would be accessible to more people. We formed True Body Products (originally known as Orange Mountain) to make True Body Soap: a 100% natural, environmentally-conscious product that’s priced significantly lower than other natural soaps.

But it’s not just about the soap. We knew that the way we planned to run the company would need to match the mission of the product. So, we set out to create a business model that bakes our values into everything we do. We strive to create a workplace community that nurtures human potential and is driven by cooperation rather than ego.

We believe that generating wealth means producing healthy and useful products, creating good quality jobs, protecting the planet, and contributing to our community, as well as making money. By this example, we hope to change the way the world does business.

True Body Soap is unscented, and it contains only five ingredients – coconut oil, pal oil (from members of the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil), water, vegetable glycerine, and sodium. The soap makes lots of lather and is long lasting. It is especially good for people with sensitive skins, like me. At Whole Foods, I purchased three bars for $4.99.

True Body Soap contains no animal by-products, synthetic ingredients or chemical preservatives. It’s entirely free of EDTA, chelates or any other type of artificial preservative.

True Body Soap comes in a 3-pack which is a better value for soap users, and better for the planet since we’re putting more product into less packaging.

The bar and the box were designed to make the most efficient use of space. We ship more soap and less empty space to help reduce the amount of energy used and pollution created to ship our product.

Our packaging is make from 100% recycled industrial waste, meaning the scraps created from the product of other companies’ packaging. We’re working to include post-consumer recycled material with our next packaging run.

More than 10 years ago, Blaire Kessler was Miss Winston Cup/NASCAR ’98. However, after being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2005, when she was only in her early 30s, Blaire found that she had “major hair and skin/scarring issues.” Searching for relief, Blaire realized that “there weren’t 100% natural products our there that included all of the ingredients I need to get my pretty hair and skin back. I received some products from my friend but was scared to use them because of chemicals and known carcinogens.”

Blaire decided to conduct her own research.

After much trial and error, I made my own leave-in hair and scalp revival serum and décolleté and underarm massage cream for scarring and skin renewal.

By early 2007, Blaire’s husband noted that she was looking fantastic. Perhaps, he suggested, these products could also help others.

I have collaborated with a team of professional chemists to create effective 100% natural, carcinogen free solutions for people like me who are looking in a new and healthy direction. As a breast cancer survivor, it was important to me to produce products for the public that were not only tested but I wanted the ingredients to be evaluated by a doctor. I contacted the one doctor renowned for critiquing cosmetics for being toxic – Dr. Samuel S. Epstein, the founder of the Cancer Prevention Coalition. He does not endorse products, but after reviewing all of the ingredients, he issued a letter stating that they are acceptable for safe public use which to a cancer survivor is mandatory during recovery and thereafter.

Pristine Beauty sells the following products: Hooray for Brallywood Butta Skin Cream, No Scary Hairy Hair and Scalp Revival Serum, Take a Whiff Natural Deodorant, Pristine Beauty Bag (Gift Set of Three), and Pristine Beauty Vanity Tray (Set of Three). All of the products are paraben free, phthalates free, mineral oil free, propylene glycol free, cruelty free, and vegan.

People who purchase Pristine Beauty products help younger women dealing with breast cancer. The company donates a portion of the proceeds to the Young Survival Coalition and the Cancer Prevention Coalition.

Ursula Calderon, the owner of Micio Mambo, created a store “to offer leather-free, cruelty-free (no animal testing and no animal-by-products) and environmentally friendly (less carbon impact) products to as many people as possible.”

The number one contribution to global warming is factory farming. If we can lessen our attachment to animal products, we will have a far greater impact on our environment and world than the cars we drive or the light bulbs we have in our homes. Plus, when we don’t use animal products we are making the most compassionate choice we can for the wonderful beings we share this world with. You can still be stylish and make smart, conscientious choices.

Among the offerings at Micio Mambo are cosmetics, handbags, home stuff, jewelry, men’s items, skincare products, t-shirts, wallets, travel items, women’s shoes, accessories, and a vegan baking book and a vegetarian cooking DVD. Be sure to check out the new products, and don’t forget the sale section, where some of the prices are truly amazing.

It should not surprise anyone that Ursula Calderon donates a portion of the proceeds of Micio Mambo to local animal shelters and organizations.
