Stewart + Brown: Truly Unique Clothing

For Karen Stewart and Howard Brown, 2002 was a truly momentous time. That year, they gave birth to a baby girl, Hazel Stewart Brown, and a stylish, high quality ethical clothing brand named Stewart + Brown.

Design for Karen and Howard is a passion and a way of life. Their professional journey stems from a union of creativity and purpose. Karen, a trained painter and New York native, and Howard, a graphic artist and Montana native, oversee every aspect of the product and brand themselves. Each Stewart + Brown collection, at an elemental level, is a fusion of experiences and insights filtered through their creative core and rendered into their own unique and personal aesthetic. While finding inspiration in all aspects of life, their collaborations are primarily influenced by art, design, culture, travel, and nature.

For their cotton products, Stewart + Brown use only organic cotton.

Organic cotton is grown in soil that has been certified free from pesticides, herbicides, and other cancer causing toxins and is not grown from genetically engineered seeds. Farming cotton organically improves soil fertility, safeguards farm and textile workers’ health, and also preserves the quality of air, water, and land for future generations.

For the Stewart + Brown lines of cashmere, the company uses only Mongolian suppliers, “thus providing nomadic Mongolian herders with the resources necessary to sustain their centuries old heritage and ultimately their survival.” In addition to organic cotton and Mongolian cashmere, Stewart + Brown products are made from hemp, linen, lyocell and surplus fabrics.
