Tees for Change

If you are in the market for a new T-shirt, you might wish to consider this Boulder, Colorado-based company, founded in Spring 2007 by Andrea Ayers. It combines “her passion for eco-friendly living and deep belief in a positive outlook on life.” Each T-shirt, which is made from either organic cotton or 70 percent bamboo/30 percent organic cotton has an inspirational message, such as “choose happiness” or “laugh often.”

The tees are fair trade and made under “sweatshop-free conditions.” Moreover, the cotton is cultivated without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, which is good for the environment and for the workers who grow and manufacture the shirts. Naturally sustainable bamboo is fast-growing and because of its natural antibacterial properties, it needs no pesticides and is 100 percent biodegradable. The organic cotton apparel are dyed using low impact dyes and low impact dyeing methods.

In addition, Tees for Change has partnered with American Forests’ Global Releaf. For every shirt purchased at retail price, a tree is planted. By the end of 2006, American Forests had planted 25 million trees in more than 500 projects across the United States and internationally.
